About the Winery: Founded in 1805, Champagne Vollereaux now owns nearly 40 hectares (100 acres) covering 13 villages of Coteaux Sud d’Epernay in the Marne Valley of Champagne. This includes Pierry, a Premier Cru classified village. Represented by Helene and Franck Vollereaux, the 6th generation continues a two-century-old legacy of family ownership and management. Frank is the winemaker, Helene manages tourism, and their uncle, Jean-Marie Vollereaux, is the vineyard manager. Concerned to the environmental issues of today and tomorrow, and the well-being of their consumers, the family is committed to thoughtful stewardship of its vineyards, and remaining a family-owned company. Type: Sparkling Wine Country: France Region: Champagne Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir Viticulture: HVE Level 3 Climate: Dual climate subject to both continental and oceanic influences Terroir: 29 years old vines grow on clay and limestone soil Winemaking: Pinot Noir grapes are macerated via the traditional saignée’ method, or “bleeding” off a portion of pink juice during red wine production. The juice spends three years on lees, more than twice the time required by appellation rules Color: Intense raspberry-like colour, slightly tiled Nose: A nose of red berries and crushed strawberry. After aeration, the nose reveals greedier notes, evoking pastries and vanilla aromas Palate: In a suave and greedy structure, the mouth is full and bodied as aromas persist to give a very long finish
