Carignan Tramuntana Mare Nostrum Vini 2021, naturally farmed, 90 year old vines, goblet trained, 400m above sea level on sandy soils. Simply one of the best and most elegant and beautifully textured glass of Carignan we have ever tasted. Here there is whole bunch fermentation with indigenous yeast in wooden vats before being transferred to stainless steel tanks for settling. The wine is then aged for 30 months in old oak barriques before bottling. Very little sulphur is added. Pure garrigue and dried berry fruits with hints of sweet spice, simply delicious red wine. For game, pink lamb, cheeses wrapped in vines leaves and herbs. Like all the wines in the Mare Nostrum range, Tramuntana is named after the wind. This is the northwest wind, whose name means ‘through the mountains’ in Catalan.
